stars-storySOUTHEAST OHIO – The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the area until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

This afternoon showers and thunderstorms will move through the area. Some storms could be severe, with hail and damaging winds. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts are expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, except for areas experiencing thunderstorms.

Showers are likely through the night as well as the possibility of thunderstorms. Some storms may be severe, with hail, damaging winds, and gusty winds. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

The areas under the tornado watch include: Athens; Gallia; Meigs; Jackson; Vinton; and Washington.

Thursday more showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm continue until 3 p.m. Some storms may produce heavy rainfall. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts for Thursday are expected to be between three quarters to one inch possible.
