Matt Goody 001Willis “Matt” Goody, age 42, of Gallipolis, left the physical world unexpectedly on Monday, June 2, 2014, to be with his Lord and Savior. Matt was born on February 19, 1972, in Gallipolis, the son of Faye Moore Goody and the late Vernon Washington Goody. He is survived by his beloved fiancée and cherished best friend, Angela Jane Elliott-Steger, his beloved stepson, Colton Eryk Steger, both of his home in Gallipolis, two brothers, James (Roberta) Goody of New Haven, West Virginia, and David Goody of Gallipolis, a nephew, Michael (Misty) Goody, and niece, Kelly (Todd) Martin. Also surviving him are Candace (Allen Ross) Keller-Goody and beloved stepson, Justus William “Gage” Keller. Matt was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Allan Goody, and his father, Vernon Washington Goody.

Matt attended Gallia Academy High School. He graduated from Washington State Community College in 1995 and was a certified carpenter by trade. Matt never knew a stranger. He loved talking to all different sorts of people. He enjoyed finding ways to uplift the spirit in others. He was a kind, gentle soul, and a loving, caring, genuine man with an amazing compassionate heart. Matt was an avid sports fan, his favorite teams being the Pittsburgh Steelers and The Ohio State Buckeyes, and locally the Gallia Academy Blue Devils.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 11 am at the Waugh-Halley Wood Funeral Home, with Reverend Alfred Holley officiating. Calling hours will be Friday, June 6, 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the funeral home. Pall bearers will be David Goody, Michael Goody Jim Goody, Colton Steger, Brent Wachs, and Jay McCarty. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the funeral home, Waugh-Halley Wood, 810 Second Avenue, to help offset funeral expenses.
