POMEROY – As part of the summer reading program, the Pomeroy Library had Nancy the Turtle Lady come visit and teach the kids about all of her reptiles.

Miss Nancy brought out her turtles first and taught the kids about proper handling of the animals, and about their diets and habitats, as well as lots of other facts about turtles. She also showed the children her baby turtles and told them about how they survive to grow up.

After she had put the turtles away, Nancy brought out some frogs and toads. She showed the children a tree frog and demonstrated how their sticky bodies help them climb everything, even upside-down. The Turtle Lady told the kids the toad had a secret for them but they had to first promise to always be nice to animals, which they promised, and she taught them lots of facts about toads.

Up next, Nancy brought out her snakes creamsicle and checkers and taught the kids that while you should never handle wild snakes, they are good to have around.

After that she told the children she had some “dragons” to show them and brought out her bearded dragons Chester, Ester, Lester, and Stewart and told them facts about the dragons.

After teaching the children about all the reptiles, Nancy let the children look at all the animals and touch them, but told them they shouldn’t pick them up or put their fingers near the animals mouths to teach the children how to be safe with animals; she also told them to always wash their hands after playing with animals.

Once the children were done with the animals the library distributed bagged lunches provided by the Meigs County Council on Aging, as part of their summer lunch program.
