Bill Johnson Statement on Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby Ruling

image001(2)Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby, and other closely-held companies on religious freedom grounds.

“The Supreme Court’s decision to strike down a key portion of President Obama’s takeover of health care is an important first step in chipping away at this ruinous law that was forced on the American people. Now, closely-held companies across the United States will not be compelled to offer a specific coverage that is in direct contrast with their religious views, or that they find morally objectionable. In January of this year, I signed onto an amicus brief supporting the plaintiffs in this case. The First Amendment to the Constitution protects our religious freedoms, and the Court’s opinion today is a significant win for those who believe in religious freedom and liberty.

“However, Congress must continue to work to repeal this onerous health care law, and replace it with common sense, patient centered solutions that will lift the veil of uncertainty from small businesses so they can hire and expand, reduce the cost of health care with increased competition and better care, put Americans in charge of their health care decisions rather than unelected and unaccountable government bureaucrats, and protect America’s seniors. I am willing to work with anyone who comes to the table to reform America’s health care system with such common sense solutions, because Americans deserve a federal government that works FOR them rather than taking more FROM them.”
