On July 19th 2014 the Gallipolis Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Upper River Road within the City of Gallipolis. This collaborative effort by the two agencies was done in an effort to promote traffic safety by detecting drivers impaired by both drugs and alcohol. During the activation period, 564 vehicles were contacted and as a result of the checkpoint two OVI (operating a vehicle while intoxicated) arrests were made and several other enforcement actions were taken by officers.

These types of operations are conducted by our agencies to ensure the safety of the motoring public as they travel throughout our area. Drug impaired driving is an increasing problem in our area and throughout the country. Our agencies take a zero tolerance stance on the enforcement of this very serious and dangerous crime. These types of enforcement activities are proof of this stance. We would like to thank everyone that came through the checkpoint for their time, patience and support of our efforts.
