Sheriff’s Office Responds to Shooting

Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood reports that on Sunday October 12, 2014 at 9:15p.m. his office received a call from Meigs County 911 in reference to a shooting that occurred at 33375 Shepherd Rd in Salem Twp.

Upon arrival to the scene, Sgt. Mark Griffin took Harley Smallwood, 27, of Painter Ridge, Vinton, into custody for questioning and pending charges.

Deputies then learned that the victim had left the residence and traveled to a residence on Sycamore St in Middleport.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was flown to St. Mary’s in Huntington by Med Flight.

At this time Smallwood is being held on a Parole Violation. The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Middleport Police Department and Meigs County EMS.
