Orlena “Lena” Underwood, 81

Orlena “Lena” Underwood, 81, Bidwell, Ohio passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. She was born February 1, 1933 at Robinette, West Virginia, daughter of the late Monroe and Ruth Ella Johnson Cantrell. Mrs. Underwood retired from child care as she worked for Gallia County Human Services, Gallia-Meigs Head Start for more than 25 years. Her love for children was GREAT. She was a Baptist in Faith.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Robert M. “Bob” Underwood; one son and daughter-in-law, James Lee and Donna Marie Porter, Mountville, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters: Kara (Steven) Ashba, Mountville, Pennsylvania and Regina (Christopher) Beckwith, Mallory, West Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Jada and two great-grandsons: Ethan and Spencer; sister, Susan Marie (Randy) Ackorn, Fort Mill, South Carolina; sister-in-laws: Anna Bell Cantrell, Amherstdale, West Virginia; Dee Cantrell, Logan County, West Virginia; Jackie (Russell) Greene, Man, West Virginia; Betty (Paul) Hollingshead and Sharon (Doyle) Saunders, both of Bidwell, Ohio as well as several nieces, nephews,great-nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

“Your friendship was cherished and never forgotten. All my Love to Beth and Aaron Dennison – may your lives be full of Love and Happiness. To all the children I took care of or worked with, you were a BRIGHT SPOT in my life, and I never forgot how special each and every one of you were to me. May you all have a HAPPY LIFE.”

In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ann Solomon and three brothers: James Elige Cantrell, Danny Cantrell and Donald Cantrell.

Orlena would like to THANK her family and friends that gave her the ROSES while she lived.

In accordance with Orlena’s wishes, Cremation services will be conducted under the direction of the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel.
