Mary Elizabeth “Bettie” Clark, 99
Mary Elizabeth “Bettie” Clark, 99, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. Born June 19, 1915 at Blue Creek, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Ellis and Georgia (Ambler) Hamrick. Bettie received her Bachelors of Education in Home Economics in 1940 and her Master’s Degree in 1977, both from the Ohio State University as well as receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Ohio State University College of Home Economics in 1986. She worked for the Co-Operative Extension Service as a county extension agent in Gallia County from 1972 until her retirement in 1984. She also taught Home Economics at Rio Grande High School and Gallia Academy High School.
Bettie was a member of Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church, Rio Grande, where she served on the Church Administrative Board, Treasurer, Finance Committee Member, Chairman of the Building Committee, Sunday School Superintendent, Pastoral Relations Committee and received a Mother of the Year Award from the Boy Scouts. Other memberships include Order of Eastern Star, Gallipolis Chapter; Ohio State University Alumni Association and College of Home Economics Alumni Association; last living Charter Member of Daughters of American Revolution, Ohio Valley Chapter, Parkersburg, West Virginia and she was an avid OSU Buckeye fan.
She is survived by her sons and daughter: Joseph W. (Barbara) Clark, Fort Wayne, Indiana; Charles (Charles Hundley) Clark, Urbana, Illinois and Catherine (Paul) Clark-Eich, Lancaster, Ohio; grandchildren: Amanda Harouff, Fort Wayne, Indiana; Stephen Clark, Noblesville, Indiana; LeAnn (Jeff) Nome, Fort Wayne, Indiana and Stephanie Eich, Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Laela Harouff, Kaia Nome, Spencer Nome and Jase Nome; nephew, Ross Hamrick, Bidwell, Ohio and niece, Georgiana Jenkins, Thurman, Ohio as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Bettie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Clark; five brothers: Fred, Lester, Ellis Jr., Charles and George Hamrick and three sisters: Grace McCarty, Dorothy Myers and Marie Hamrick.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, May 9, 2015 in the Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church, Rio Grande, Ohio with Pastor Bob Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery, Gallipolis. Friends and family may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis Friday 4:00-8:00 PM.
