Rite Aid Burglarized in Pomeroy, Two Suspects in Custody
POMEROY – Employees of the Pomeroy Rite Aid arrived at work Wednesday morning to find glass from the front door shattered and the store ransacked.
According to Pomeroy Police Chief Mark Proffitt, sometime prior to 8 a.m. a rock had been used to smash the front door glass to gain entrance to the store. He said currently there are two adults in police custody, a male and a female. Their names are not being released at this time. Proffitt said he had been in contact with the Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as to what charges would be filed, but added the charges would more than likely be felonies.
Two Ohio Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Units were on the scene along with Chief Proffitt and Captain Jim Webster also of the Pomeroy Police Department.
Proffitt would only comment that a black two-door vehicle which had been taped off may be possibly involved in the burglarly. A member of the B.C.I. Crime Scene team had been searching the vehicle along with Proffitt. The B.C.I. response team had also been seen removing several brown bags from the building.
Proffitt added that he and his department strive to, “look out for the well being of businesses and the public.”
As more information is available, the Meigs Independent Press will update this story.
