Sheriff calls in BCI following officers finding body at Middleport residence

MIDDLEPORT – The Meigs County Sheriff has called in the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations to assist into a “suspicious death” in Middleport.

According to Sheriff Keith O. Wood, his office was contacted by the Middleport Police Department at the request of Chief Bruce Swift following his officers finding a man dead at a residence.  The officers were making a “well being check” on the individual whose name is not being released at this time so the family may be notified.

Sheriff Wood said the matter was under investigation, called in Ohio BCI and would not speculate as to the circumstances of the man’s death.

Several streets including where the investigation is centered on High Street in Middleport are closed off to traffic and the public. Several alleyways are also closed. According to the sheriff, the roads would be closed at least through the end of the day as the investigation proceeds.
