Name released, more information on the fatal ATV accident

POMEROY – The name of the fatal ATV accident victim and further information has been released by the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office.
Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood reports that over the weekend his office investigated a fatal ATV accident that was on private property.
On June 25, 2016, at 3:49 p.m., deputies were dispatched to 39448 Union Avenue in Pomeroy, Ohio to assist Meigs County EMS on an unknown emergency call. The initial call was received stating that a subject needed help with his dad. While enroute to the scene, deputies’ obtained additional information stating that the emergency was an ATV crash.
Upon arrival on scene deputies were advised that EMS personnel were already on top of the hill with the victim. Deputies, assisted by the Pomeroy Fire Department brush truck, were transported on top of the hill to the scene location. Upon the deputies’ arrival, paramedics advised that the individual, later identified as Ron Allen Capehart, 47, Pomeroy, was deceased. Meigs County Coroner Dr. Douglas Hunter was then contacted and came to the scene.
Deputies spoke with family members who stated that Capehart had gone to look for a cow that may have calved and to check the fence lines after the recent rains around 2:00 p.m. Capehart was found by his son who was out looking for his father when he discovered the four wheeler sitting on its side and his father underneath the ATV. The son drove back down the hill to get help and call 911.
Deputies were assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Meigs County EMS and the Pomeroy Fire Department. Cremeens Funeral Home in Pomeroy, Ohio was contacted.
