Christian candle cross obitNila L. Browning, 78, Bidwell, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. The daughter of the late Samuel and Ora (Creech) Smith, Nila was born August 12, 1938 in Letcher County, Kentucky. She married Danny L. Browning October 16, 1961 in Cincinnati, Ohio. During their marriage, she managed Duke’s Dry Cleaning Center in Gallipolis and worked beside her husband becoming an accomplished drywall finisher, until he preceded her in death June 28, 2009. Nila enjoyed attending Vinton Baptist Church, Gallia County Senior Center dinners, and the Gallia County Conservation Club. She enjoyed being around people and was well known for her kindness.

To this union, two children were born: Sherry (Mike) Parks, Circleville, Ohio and Joseph (Dawn) Browning, Bidwell, Ohio; grandchildren: Jeremy (Kelly) Browning, Brandon (Briana) Veazey, Cindel Veazey, Cory Browning, Michael Haney, Kayla (Ben) Mollohan, Ethan Browning and Katelyn Haney; great-grandchildren: Eliza Browning, Roman Veazey, Atticus Haney, Cecilia Haney and soon to be introduced to the world, Liam Michael Veazey. Also, brothers: Samuel Smith, Jr., Linefork, Kentucky and Gerald Calahan, Cumberland, Kentucky and sisters: Faye Stringer, Dayton, Ohio and Mable Plueger, Augusta, Georgia; lifelong friend, Wretha Schoch, special friend Debra Sword and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers and sister: Olan Smith, Bicel Smith, Estil Smith, Virgil Smith and Verda Lusk.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio with Rev. Heath Jenkins, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Wednesday 6-8 p.m.
