Trick or treat and Halloween happenings around the county
MEIGS COUNTY – It is that time of year for costumed youngsters and those young at heart to dress as ghosts, zombies, superheroes and the like for trick or treat and Halloween parties.
Remember that communities such as Racine and Syracuse close streets to traffic for the safety of trick-or-treaters, but all motorists should be alert to pedestrians especially during trick or treat times.
The following are Trick-or-Treat times by date:
Thursday, October 27
Rutland will have trick or treat from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Chester will have trick or treat from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Reedsville will have trick or treat from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Tuppers Plains will have trick or treat from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Middleport trick or treat will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Middleport Legion Post 128 will have free hot dogs in the Stewart Bennett Park. The Middleport Fire Department will have popcorn as well. In addition to trick or treat, the Meigs County Council on Aging have treats during trick or treat with games and refreshments at the building from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Pomeroy will have Treat Street in downtown Pomeroy from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Main Street. A portion of Main Street will be closed for the event. There will be photos at the Bartees. Additionally there will be candy, games, and a costume contest during Treat Street. Wolfe Mountain Entertainment and the River City Players will be presenting Haunted High Face Your Darkest Fears, a haunted house experience from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. (See details below for more information and times.)
Friday, October 28
Racine trick or treat from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be a Halloween party at the Racine Fire Department immediately following trick or treat.
Syracuse trick or treat is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Streets will be closed, but Route 124 will remain open.
Saturday, October 29
Portland Community Center at 6:15 p.m. will have a Halloween party for children. Trick or treat, games, prizes and food will be part of the festivities. A movie will be shown, weather permitting, after the party.
Other Halloween experiences:
Haunted High School Face Your Darkest Fears is located at Wolfe Mountain Entertainment and is open nightly from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. October 27 through October 29 and again on October 31. Last year the collaboration between Wolfe Mountain Entertainment and actors from the River City Players was a “spooktacular” success and they are back at it again. “Face Your Darkest Fears” is described as “once again the resident ghosts and spirits of Haunted High come to life for all-hollows eve to greet those who dare to visit.” The haunted house experience is rated for adult visitors and is limited to visitors 10 years of age and up. Admission is $5 per guest/per visit. Fast pass is available for $10 per guest/per visit.
During the Haunted High, Wolfe Mountain Entertainment will also host a Halloween Kid’s Carnival from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on October 27 through October 29 and also again on October 31. There will be games, prizes, costumed characters, and concessions.
