POMEROY – Matthew A. Eblin, Jr. appeared in the Meigs County Court of Common Pleas admitting to a probation violation. He was sentenced to the remainder of time possible by Judge Carson Crow.

Eblin was convicted of the amended charge of failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer, a misdemeanor of the first degree in 2014. He still had time to serve possible from that case. Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney Colleen Williams had filed to revoke probation on Eblin after the alleged events of December 3, 2016. According to the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Eblin allegedly went after his then girlfriend who fled their residence during a domestic assault and ran to the Mizway Tavern. Eblin allegedly drug the victim around the parking lot by her hair when patrons of the Mizway Tavern began to intervene. According to the sheriff’s report, Eblin got into his vehicle, spun tires and in the process hit another woman that had been attempting to help the other victim. The second woman was eventually transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio with numerous injuries including to her face and mouth.

Eblin appeared before Judge Crow with his counsel, Denise Bunce. Bunce argued that Eblin believed he had completed his probation, however, court records proved otherwise. At one point Eblin was on reporting probation and then moved to non-reporting probation.

Eblin admitted to a violation of his probation, but without any specific reason. Bunce clarified that her client was not making any admission in relation to the possible new charges that are expected to filed in January with the grand jury.

“I think he is remorseful,” Bunce said of her client breaking probation. She said he believed he completed it.

Judge Crow, however, sentenced him to the remainder of time in county jail minus 13 days for a total of 167 days to be served by Eblin.
