Local woman making a difference from her porch
MIDDLEPORT – While cleaning out closets, Stephanie Jones realized she had several coats and that is when inspiration struck to make a difference.
From her porch, Jones has simply put coats out for those that need a coat, for free. It started with just her family and then to friends and is spreading, according to Jones. She said a stranger just dropped off three coats as well.
“I want to help keep people warm this winter,” Jones told the Meigs Independent Press. She placed the coats on her porch and offered them for free to help others that may not have an adequate winter coat.
The temperatures have been dropping and snow flurries are expected through the weekend. It’s getting colder and Jones wanted to do something about it. She placed a sign that reads, “Baby it’s cold outside. Need a coat. Take a coat. Have a coat. Leave a coat.”
It has been working. So far she says that since starting on Thursday, December 29, about 20 coats and hoodies have been picked up.
She is also accepting donations of coats which can be dropped off by just hanging them on the rack or on her porch.
Her home is located on 693 South Second Avenue in Middleport with a sign welcoming those in need and those needing to give, to pay it forward.
