State Fire Marshal names hotels to ‘Stay Safe’ list

OHIO – State Fire Marshal Larry L. Flowers designated 43 Ohio hotels as Safe Stay Hotels for their commitment to compliance with the Ohio Fire Code (OFC)-based fire and life safety standards and Ohio Revised Code (R.C.)-based sanitary standards. These hotels received the designation for their consistent compliance over a two-year period.

“We want the public to know that these hotels are consistently meeting required standards during their inspections. They are clean, fire safe facilities that deserve to be recognized,” Marshal Flowers said. “We encourage visitors to Ohio and Ohioans traveling around the state to check the list of qualifying hotels.”

These sorts of inspections are vital and can be, quite literally, life-saving. Quite often, fire inspection companies use software like that of Inspect Point to ensure that buildings are safe for those using them.

The list is updated daily on the State Fire Marshal’s website. In addition, hotels that earn a Safe Stay designation can display a Safe Stay logo on site, and in promotional materials.

The designation comes from the Ohio Business Compliance Incentive (OBCI), which was included in House Bill 486, signed into law by Governor John R. Kasich in June 2014. This transformative approach to regulation aims to recognize and incentivize those hotels that are consistently in compliance. In addition to complying with OFC and R.C. standards, hotels must meet additional criteria. Perhaps having great PMS software can help to meet these criteria.

As the program is kicked off, we would like to invite the media and public to our regional meetings to learn more about the exciting new program and to speak with Division of State Fire Marshal representatives. Meetings will be held throughout the state.
