Ohio State Patrol welcomes comments during public session for reaccreditation

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol will welcome comments from community members in an upcoming public call-in session on March 29, which addresses the Patrol’s ability to comply with re-accreditation standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA.

This is the ninth re-accreditation application for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is required every three years.  

The Patrol is thankful for anyone who decides to attend, call or write during this session. Public support of the Patrol is vital to day-to-day operations, and it is a large component in maintaining accredited status.  

The public comment session will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 4:30 p.m. in the Shipley Building Atrium, 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43218. Parking is available for free in the lot adjacent to the Shipley Building.  

For those unable to attend in person, the assessment team will be available from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.at 1-866-931-6448. Telephone comments are toll-free. They are generally limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A chapter overview of CALEA standards can be found on CALEA’s website. 

Anyone wishing to submit written comments may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.  

The assessment team from CALEA will also conduct an on-site examination of all aspects of the Patrol’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services from March 27 to March 30. The team consists of retired Major David Munday from North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Lieutenant Marianne Daly from the Connecticut State Police.  

Receiving accreditation is an honor to the agency and further helps the Patrol serve the state of Ohio.
