RACINE, Ohio – Following a bizarre series of events April 12, 2017, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred in Racine, Ohio.

Sometime after 7 p.m. witnesses said they saw a woman, who has yet to officially be identified, behaving erratically near several local businesses in the village. The woman allegedly was running and screaming at one point in a yard. She was reportedly driving “recklessly” in a late model white vehicle near Hill’s Sunoco, before heading out of town on State Route 124 east bound.

The events that followed were not entirely clear, as of publication, but a crash occurred between the vehicle driven by the woman and another vehicle in front of the Racine Ohio River Boat Ramp parking lot and entrance. The suspect reportedly crashed into a vehicle with passengers including two small children. The woman was taken into custody by Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputies until the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived.

The woman could be heard screaming from a deputy’s cruiser that her children were locked in the vehicle she hit. Law enforcement, and other first responders checked the trunk. No children were in the trunk. The woman was transported to the Meigs Emergency Room via the Meigs EMS, according to Trooper Adam Williams.

Trooper Williams said the incident was “OVI related,” but the investigation was still pending.

Also responding to the scene was the Racine Fire Department. Traffic was stopped in both directions for sometime while law enforcement was investigating the crash and the crashed vehicles had to be cleared from the scene.
