Editor’s note: The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office Deputies respond to all sorts of calls. The notebook is a listing of the public record of those calls.

On May 18, 2017 Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to several calls including a report of a burglary.
Probation Violation – Deputy Snoke and Adult Parole Authority Officer Reaser performed a home check on parolee, Jeremy Barney, 38, of Langsville. While looking through the residence, drugs and paraphernalia were reportedly located. Barney was taken into custody and charges will be filed.
Burglary – Deputy Riley is investigating a burglary reported by Faye Westfall, of Long Bottom. The residence was entered sometime between May 17 and May 18 by unknown suspect(s). The incident remains under investigation.
EMS Assist – Sgt Patterson and Deputy King went to a residence on Salem School Lot Road after receiving reports of an unresponsive female at the residence. Once at the residence, deputies located the female and secured the scene for the medics. It was determined that the female had overdosed. Medics treated the female at the scene and was able to revive her. She was transported to a hospital for further treatment.

On May 19, an alarm activation was reported.
Alarm – Deputy Myers responded to an alarm activation on Cotterill Road. When Deputy Myers arrived, the property owner was there and everything was secure. The property owner was outside working and had the FOB in his pocket and believes he may have accidentally hit the button to activate the alarm.
SEX OFFENDER- Sgt Patterson registered one sex offender.

Court papers were served on May 20, 2017.
Court Papers – Sgt Mohler served two court papers and attempted one other.

On May 21, several complaints were investigated.
Investigate Complaint – Deputies responded to a residence in Darwin in reference to a male subject acting erratically. The male was transported to the Meigs ER for evaluation.
Assault – Deputy Snoke spoke with a female who had been to the ER due to being assaulted by a male acquaintance. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the assault had taken place in South Carolina a couple of days prior, and the victim did not wish to pursue any charges at this time.

Deputies assisted with a traffic accident on May 22.
Traffic – Deputies assisted the Ohio Highway Patrol in a crash that took place on State Route 7 near Eastern High School. One male was transported by EMS.

On May 23, deputies assisted Meigs EMS and investigated an alleged assault.
Medic Assist – Deputies secured the scene at a residence on Hysell Run Road for Meigs EMS. A patient was transported but nothing criminal had taken place.
Assault – Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Morning Star Road to investigate a report of shots being fired. Upon arrival, deputies learned that workers with the Nelson Tree Company were trimming some tree limbs from the power lines when a resident became upset and allegedly fired shots in their direction. The male was later placed under arrest and charges are pending in Meigs County Court.

On May 24, the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office assisted Child Protective Serves.
Assist CPS- Sgt Patterson and Deputy Perry assisted Child Protective Services on the removal of juveniles from a residence on Cone Road. The children were removed without incident.
Court Papers – Sgt Griffin served three court papers.

On May 25, a alarm activation was checked and a sex offender registered.
Alarm – Sgt Patterson responded to an alarm at a residence on Ball Run Road. The residence was checked and everything was secure. It is unknown what activated the alarm.
Sex Offender – Sgt Patterson registered two sex offenders.

On May 26, deputies investigated an alleged assault, served court papers and registered a sex offender.
Assault – Deputy Jones is investigating a report of an assault that took place at Taz’s Marathon. The victim reported that he was walking back to his car when Brewce Martin, 51, of Rutland, threatened him and then tried to run over him with his car. For more on this story, click here.
Court Papers – Deputy Riley served three court papers and attempted three others.
Sex Offender – Sgt Patterson registered one sex offender.

A complaint was investigated on May 27 and court papers were served.
Investigate Complaint – Sgt Patterson is investigating a report of an unknown subject turning off the cooling system of a semi-trailer parked along SR 124 in Minersville. The trailer must be kept at a certain temperature to ensure the quality of the product inside, and someone keeps shutting the system down. If anyone has any information about the subject(s) who may be doing this, please call the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office at 740-992-3371.
COURT PAPERS- Deputy Patterson served three court papers.

Deputies assisted Meigs EMS on May 29.
Assist EMS – Sgt. Jones responded to a residence on Dyesville Road. The caller had advised that her daughter woke her up stating there was a male outside beating on their door wanting them to call 911 because there were some people after him and they were going to kill him. After Sgt. Jones spoke to the male it was determined he needed to be transported by EMS due to medical issues. The male was then transported to Holzer ER by Meigs EMS.

On May 30, deputies assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol and investigate a suspicious persons report.
Assist OSP- Deputy Hupp and Sgt. Jones responded to Bradbury Road in reference to people arguing in the roadway. Upon their arrival, they found it to be a vehicle accident. OSP handled the accident scene and arrested Danny Walker, 61, Rutland for an OVMI charge.

Auto Accident: Deputy Hupp responded to Sorden Road, Long Bottom in reference to an auto accident. The Juvenile driver was cited for Failure to control and released.
Suspicious Persons: Deputy Stacy responded to the area of White’s Hill Road about a couple of subjects out walking up and down the road with flashlights. The caller believes they came up and knocked on their door or were messing around. The caller advised he just wanted the area patrolled and no personal contact was needed at this time. Deputy Stacy located two females in the area and transported them to their residence.

On May 31, another suspicious person report was investigated.
Suspicious Person: Deputy Stacy responded to Murray Road off of Ball Run Road in reference to a caller advising there was a black male wearing a gray hoodie and jean shorts walking up and down the road and no one up that way knows him. Deputy Stacy patrolled the area and was unable to locate the male.
