155th Meigs County Fair to celebrate with fireworks, concerts
ROCKSPRINGS, Ohio – The Meigs County Fair is celebrating the 155th fair in 2018.
The fair is set to be held Aug. 13-18, 2018 at the fairgrounds just outside of Pomeroy, Ohio. Each year the theme for the fair is chosen by members of the Meigs County Junior Fairboard. This year they chose “Ridin’, Rockin’, and Livestockin’, at the 155th Meigs County Fair.”
This year’s fair promises to definitely bring the “Rockin’” part according to Meigs County Agricultural Society President, Wes Karr. “On August 13, 2018 we will open the 155th Meigs County Fair! This year’s fair will include an action packed schedule aimed to please everyone from two popular contemporary Christian groups on Tuesday to Wayland on Wednesday night, August 15.”
The Meigs County Agricultural Society is comprised of a board of volunteers that work all year to maintain the fairgrounds and prepare for the annual event. In the past several years, there have been improvements to the buildings, electric, and even the construction of new buildings as well. It has definitely changed from the first fair of the Meigs County Agricultural Society held on Wednesday, October 22, 1851 in Middleport, Ohio. Through the years the fair was also held in Chester in 1854 and Racine in 1860 before eventually finding a home “at the rock.”
“Don’t forget the traditional favorites of Demo Derby, Truck and Tractor Pulls, livestock shows, motocross, tough track, and many more,” said Karr and added, “On Saturday evening as we bring the 155th Fair to a close please join us in celebration with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. sponsored by J and M Auto Sales. We hope to see everyone come and enjoy the 155th Meigs County Fair.”
Kid’s Day will be Aug. 14 with all children 12 and under admitted free until noon. On Aug. 16 will be Senior Citizen Day with all seniors admitted free until 2 p.m. with a Golden Buckeye Card.
Gates open at 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily at the fair. Admission is $8 and includes all entertainment, stage shows and carnival rides. Children two and under are admitted free at the gates. Parking is free. Reserved parking in specified areas is $25 for the week. Camping is also available for $175 for the week and includes water and electric, but not admission inside the gates.
