Fatal shooting being investigated in Gallia County, victim’s name released

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio – The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that led to a man’s death.

According to a statement from Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin, on April 12, 2019 at approximately 9:43 a.m. the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on East Bethel Church Road regarding a shooting which had occurred at a residence.  As a result of the initial response of officers to the scene, officers have confirmed the death of one individual at this time.  

Investigators had been on scene conducting a thorough evaluation and investigation of the scene throughout the day and the investigation has continued through the time of this statement.  

According to Sheriff Champlin, “The individual who was found deceased Friday morning has been identified as Keith A. Coon age 51 of Jackson, Ohio. This case remains under investigation at the current time and further details will be released when they become available.” Sheriff Champlin indicated that there is no further danger posed to the community as a result of this incident.

Sheriff Champlin also stated, “The Ohio Attorney General’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to assist in the investigation and is working coordinated efforts with his office in this investigation.  Further details will be made available as this investigation continues.”
