Melinda Carol (Barnett) Ledet, 61, of Athens, Ohio was called home to the lord after fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer on December 29, 2020 at 2:23 am at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Melinda was surrounded by her children and her husband abroad that night.
She was born on December 8, 1959 in Chester, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Alvin Lionel Barnett and Mildred Helen (Galaida) Barnett. Melinda was most importantly a loving mother and grandmother. She was a selfless person and would help anyone in need whether she knew them or not. She had the ability to brighten anyone’s day with her positive attitude and outlook on life. Her laughter was contagious. She loved being outdoors and was a very active woman always on the go. Her favorite place to be was on a beach somewhere. She never lost her sense of adventure in life which kept her youthful. She was the glue that held her family together.
Melinda is survived by her: husband Jeff Paul Ledet her: children, Alvin Marshall (Mercedes) Counts, Weston Lynn (McKayla) Counts, Logan Joesph (Michelle) Ledet, Cody Anthony (Darian) Counts, Brittany Joyce Ledet, Vadamae Schranda (Colt) Counts, Nicholas Frank Ledet, Rochell Rebecca Helen (Mike) Gryta. Grandchildren Caiden, Avamae, Kylie, Colt, Tucker, Bruce, Keagan, Ella, Melody, Logan, Gavin, Grayson, Alisha, Camden, and Hazel. She is also survived by her siblings Donna McPherson and Wesley “Monk” Barnett.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her two brothers Wayne and Roger Barnett, as well as her Aunt Gathel Shaffer and a granddaughter.
Melinda did not lose her battle with cancer. She battled this disease head on. She made everyone around her feel at ease even though she was fighting a great battle. From the nurses to the doctors, she always made the point to make them smile and remain positive. She beat cancer once it just so happened the second go round the lord needed her more than we did. If there was one thing Melinda would want others going through this to know, it is to never give up hope.
Visitation will be held at Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy Ohio, Tuesday January 5, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A private graveside service for the family will be held immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Melinda’s name with the Angel Tree Foundation at the Meigs County Job and Family Services located at 175 Race Street Middleport Ohio 45760.
