Dennis Saelens, 77, of Middleport
Dennis Saelens, 77, of Middleport, well known businessman passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio.
Dennis was born on May 2, 1944 in Moline, Illinois, son of the late Adolph and Loretta McKevitt. He graduated from Middleport High School in 1962 and continued his education by earning a Bachelors Degree of Science in Education from Rio Grande. He utilized his degree as a social studies teacher having taught at Logan and Gallipolis High School. Dennis owned and operated Adolph’s Dairy Valley for twenty years. It was famously known for their foot long hot dogs and sauce. He took much pride in running the business his father Adolph Saelens created and ran for twenty-five years prior to Dennis taking it over. He was always looking to help others, loved volunteering at the Sacred Heart Church, doing yard work and feeding his woodland critters.
Dennis was a humble hard worker and loving husband to his wife of 51 years, Carla, who survives him. He is also survived by a sister Lucile (Dean) Grossholz; nephews Christopher (Ruth) Wilt, Patrick (Greg) Wilt, Gregory (Walter) Wilt Wright and Michael (Valerie) Wilt; a niece Cynthia (Tom) Boies and several other nieces and nephews.
A private mass will be held at Sacred Heart Parish in Pomeroy, Ohio conducted by FR Mark Moore and FR Walter Heinz. Private burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Pomeroy, Ohio. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ewing-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Pomeroy.

Dennis will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. He was one of a kind and will always remain in our hearts and memories. He truly blessed so many without wanting praise or recognition for his tasks. His wife Carla will carry on his legacy.
Many thanks to all those who prayed and supported us during our long journey of battling cancer and its complications. He fought the battle in his usual determined manner until there was no further hope. He realized God had a plan. He is resting in peace now and having a glorious reunion in Heaven with the Lord and family.
We want to thank all the medical staff who diligently treated him. The staff at O’Bleness in Athens, Riverside Hospital and Kobacker House in Columbus for their compassion and excellent care. Also a special thanks to our RCP Dr. Douglas Hunter and staff for their care and support over the years.
