Meigs County Independence Day Celebrations

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio – Communities around the county will be celebrating Independence Day with activites through the weekend.

Rutland Volunteer Fire Department Ox Roast – July 2, 2022

Events kick off with the annual parade line up at 10 a.m. on Depot Street. The parade begins at 11 a.m. Large floats and fire trucks are to line up at the Meigs Elementary School. Ball teams and elected officials are to line up on Brick Street with ATVs and bicycles lining up in the grass area at the beginning of Depot Street. All other floats and participants are to line up on Depot Street, and horses are to line up in the gravel area at the end of Depot Street.

At the end of the parade, there will be a ceremony with the Meigs Marching Band playing the National Anthem and the Pomeroy American Legion raising the flag to kick off the event. The Pretty Baby Contest is at 12:15 p.m. on the stage followed by Little Mister and Miss Contest at 1:45 p.m. There will also be music.

There will be food stands, vendors, and games will be open at noon. A dunk tank will be operated by the Rutland Nazarene Church. Inflatables by Meigs Inflatables will also be available. Bingo is at 1 p.m.

Concessions provided by the Rutland Fire Department and will be served all day. The menu will be roast beef sandwiches, sloppy joes, hot dogs, french fries, onion rings, popcorn, nachos, snow cones, ice cream, corn dogs, mini corn dogs, mozzarella sticks, cotten candy and ice cold Pepsi products.

Fireworks are at 11 p.m.

Pomeroy – July 2, 2022

This year Pomeroy will be holding a celebration of American Independence at the levee.

There will be food vendors set up as early as 9 a.m. and remain throughout the day. The beer trailer will be open at 4 p.m.

Activities begin with a car show from 4-9 p.m. on the lower end of the levee. The event includes children’s custom wagons, bicyces, and power wheels. The car show is sponsored by C&J Auto Body.

Entertainment will go from 4-9:45 p.m. and will include inflatable bounce houses and obstacle course. Rockin Reggie will be from 4-8 p.m. From 4-9 p.m. Cartoon Fun and Comedy with JD Williamson will be presented. The Renee Stewart Band takes the stage at 8 p.m. and play until 9:45 p.m.

Fireworks begin at 9:45 p.m.

Racine – July 4, 2022

There are a few changes this year to the activities. This year the parade will be later in the day. The parade line up will begin in the evening.

The events kick off with the annual BBQ at the Racine Fire Department at 11 a.m. The menu includes chicken, potato salad, baked beans and a roll for $10. Chicken halves will be $8. Homemade ice cream will also be available by the pint for $5. Flavors include strawberry, peach, orange pineapple, pistachio, cherry nut, chocolate, lemon, pineapple and vanilla.

Activites at Star Mill Park begin at 4:30 p.m. with a water slide courtesy of RACO Racine. The water slide will be available until 8:30 p.m. Home National Bank is again sponsoring Kona Ice Truck from 7-9 p.m.

Also in the park will be the annual frog jumping contest. Registration begins at 6 p.m. for the frog jumping contest with a $3 fee, “rental frogs” available for $1. Prizes to be awarded for each age group: 7 and under; 8-12; 13-17; 18 plus.

The parade route and times have changed. This year the parade line up is at 7 p.m. at the Southern Local School parking lot. The parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. The route this year will have the parade proceeding from the school to Home National Bank, then turn on Fifth Street, where it will continue to Star Mill Park. The parade will disperse from the park and the American Legion Post.
Fireworks will be at Star Mill Park beginning at 9:45 p.m. and put on by the Racine Fire Deparment.

Middleport – July 4, 2022

Middleport will be holding their annual July 4th celebration with parade line up beginning at 5:45 p.m. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m. at the Diles Park one selection will be played by the Meigs Marching Band. The flag raising will be by Feeney-Bennett Post #128 with the National Anthem to be sung by B.J. Kreesen. Remarks to follow by Mayor Fred Hoffman and then entertainment provided by Next Level.

Food will be available by the River City Players and ice cream by the Riverbend Arts Council.

Fireworks are set for 9:30 p.m.

Syracuse Independence Day Parade

The parade line up begins at 3 p.m. on Marina Drive. The parade begins at 4 p.m. All golf carts and side by sides are welcome. Cart registration will be waived for those attending the parade.
