Meigs County Fair Returns with Old Favorites and a Few Changes for 2022

ROCKSPRINGS, Ohio – It is once again time for the cotton candy, livestock shows and harness racing at the Rock. The Meigs County Fair returns August 15-20, 2022.

The Junior Fair theme chosen by the Junior Fair Board is “Moovin’ & Groovin’ at the Meigs County Fair”. Throughout the fair, exhibits will be featuring the theme by youth of the county.

This year marks the 159th fair. The Meigs County Fair started in 1851. Through the years the location changed a few times, war interrupted it and many changes have occurred, but the Meigs County Agricultural Society, which oversees the fair, has endured. It is the biggest event in the county with more than 20,000 people attending through the week long event.

While the past and honoring it have been a big part of the fair, adapting and moving toward the future are keys to having the fair for the community in the future. This year something that has been upgraded is the ticket system for the fair. The system is similar to that used at other large events and concerts. Season tickets along with daily tickets are available and can be purchased through the website, themeigscountyfair.com. Membership tickets can be purchased from a fair board member. Seasonal tickets are not available at area stores as they have been in the past. Season tickets are $18. Membership tickets, which allows for voting privileges, are $20. Daily tickets are $8 and include rides. For those wanting to purchase tickets in person instead of online, they will be for sale at the fair secretary’s office on August 5-6. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.

In addition to a change in ticket sales, the fair is adding a beer garden. In the past, there has not been alcohol sales at the Meigs County Fair. This year there will be, but only in certain areas will alcohol be permitted and it must be purchased at the fair, not brought in. Beer sales will be at the lower portion of the fairgrounds inside the fenced area. This is the area of the Grandstand and pull track. Beer will not be permitted on the upper portion of the fairgrounds.

Everything kicks off with the annual parade at the Grandstand with opening ceremonies and royalty crowning on August 14 at 7:30 p.m. The fair officially begins on August 15. Gates are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

The events for Monday, August 15 include the Junior Fair horse, sheep and dairy shows, pretty baby contest, Emerald Chef Contest for kids, flower show judging, hay show, kiddie tractor pull, Belles and Beaus, and it all wraps up with the Demolition Derby. The Demolition Derby is at the Grandstand beginning at 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, August 16 events include Junior Fair poultry and beef shows, Junior Fair Style Review, kiddie tractor pull, open horse show, Riverside Cloggers, Next Level and rounding out the night will be Diamond J Bulls and Barrels Rodeo at the Grandstand beginning at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, August 17 is action packed with it being Kids Day at the fair. Kids 12 and under are admitted free until noon. Events include Junior Fair hog and goats shows, barn yard games, Clover Clues, Buck the Magic Cowboy, harness racing with para mutual betting, Dragon’s Eye Band, and the Zero Turn Mower Competition. Starting at 12:30 p.m. there will be special activities for kids, a show by Wolfe Mountain Entertainment and bike giveaways.

Senior Citizen Day is Thursday, August 18 with seniors admitted free until 2 p.m. Events for the day include, Junior Fair rabbit show, senior bingo, flower show judging, harness racing with para mutual betting, kiddie tractor pull, Cloverbud Show and Tell, corn hole tournament, livestock judging contest, and more bingo open to all ages. The big events for the evening are OMTPA, tractor and stock truck pulls beginning at 6 p.m. at the pull track along with motor cross at the Grandstand at 7 p.m. Keith McGrath’s Big Gas Band plays on the Hill Stage at 8 p.m.

As the week winds down, the activities continue on Friday, August 19. Events include Junior Fair pet show, 4-H horse fun show, Kiddie Tractor Pull of Champions, Junior Fair Awards, Junior Fair Showmen of Showmen Contest. Entertainment will be SkyHawks at the Hill Stage at 4 p.m. followed by local rock legends Amix at 8 p.m. Truck and Semi pulls will be at the Pull Track starting at 6 p.m. The horse pull is at 8 p.m. at the Grandstand.

On Saturday, August 20, the work of youth with livestock projects culminates in the annual livestock sale at the Ridenour Family Livestock Arena starting at 10 a.m. The antique tractor pull begins at 9 a.m. on the pull track followed by the garden tractor pull at 4 p.m. The “hot” garden tractor pull begins at 7 p.m. Andy Francis will be at the Hill Stage at 4 p.m. followed by K&D Karaoke from 7-11 p.m. Grandstand entertainment will be a beard contest at 5 p.m. followed by tough track contest at 7 p.m.
