One Person in Custody for Alleged Drug Activity

RUTLAND, Ohio – During the evening of August 29, 2022, the Rutland Police Department responded to a residence on North Main Street to assist the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office in locating Chad Wise, who had allegedly fled from deputies related to a prior incident.

Upon arrival, the vehicle described to have been driven by Wise was located at the residence.

Units from Rutland Police Department, Middleport Police Department, Pomeroy Police Department and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office surrounded the residence and ordered Wise to exit the house, who failed to do so.

Officers made entry into the home, wherein two occupants were located—Wise and Johnny Blake. Blake was observed by units quickly tossing an item into the wastebasket, according to a statement from the Village of Rutland.

Found in the wastebasket was a small bag of a crystal white substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Wise was arrested by the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody without further incident.

The Rutland Police Department seized evidence and charged Blake with possession of methamphetamine, a felony of the fifth degree.

Blake’s charge will be filed with the Meigs County Prosecutor’s Office for presentation to the Meigs County Grand Jury.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
