Meigs County Agricultural Society attended the 98th Ohio Fair Manager’s Convention
Recently directors of the Meigs County Agricultural Society attended the 98th Ohio Fair Manager’s Convention. Over 3100 fair officials, service members, youth and guests gathered in Columbus for workshops, round table discussion and education for officers.
During the convention the 2023 Ohio Fair Queens contest was held. Meigs County’s 2022 Fair Queen Melinda Lawson. Lawson participated in an interview process and attended the queens dinner where she got to meet several other county fair queens. Here is what Lawson had to say about her experience, “The contest was a great learning experience and a fun weekend. I was able to meet several other fair queens who were all very nice. I would like to thank the Meigs County Sr. Fair Board for allowing me to attend this competition.”
On Saturday of convention OSU Extension Educator, Michelle Stumbo and Kids Day Coordinator Tara Roberts presented a session about Meigs County’s Kids Day activities that are held at the fair. The prevention day for kids was started five or six years ago and has evolved into a program that provides kids in our area with resources for drug prevention, bullying, and so much more. The presentation was held during convention to allow other fairs to learn from us and to maybe implement some of our ideas at their fair.
While at convention both senior and junior fair board members met with tradeshow vendors to gather ideas and plans for this year’s 160th fair. While plans are still in the works one of the new things at this year’s fair will be a new ride company, Lisko Family Midway Amusements, Inc. Lisko is a family owned and operated carnival business located in Lowellville, Ohio. Having been in business since 1961, the Lisko family prides themselves in having a variety of safe, fun rides and attractions for all ages. One can check out some of their rides on their website at www.liskofamilymidway.com. The fair is looking forward to working with Lisko.
Rounding out the weekend was the annual awards breakfast where Hall of Fame and Communication Awards were presented. Meigs County received the following awards in the small fair division:
1st Fair Printed Promotional Material, 1st Promoting Ag Education, and 2nd for Printed Promotional Brochure. Accepting awards on behalf of the fair was board members Chuck Parker and Tara Roberts.
