Eastern and Meigs to compete in OHSAA State Track and Field
The school year has come to an end and local high schools have held their graduations, but the Track and Field Season has one more meet left. The final meet of the season, and the most important one, the OHSAA State Track and Field Tournament will be held this Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Athletes from both Eastern and Meigs will compete in Division II and Division III events.
Here is a look at the athletes and the events they will be competing in.
From Eastern:
Brayden O’Brien will be competing in the 1600 meter run. O’Brien is the regional champion in this event and also is the current record holder at Eastern High School with a time of 4:22.32
Erica Durst will be competing in the 800 meter run. Durst is the regional champion in the event and she also holds the current Eastern High School record with a time of 2:15.5.
Connor Nolan will be competing in the 3200 meter run. Nolan finished fourth at regionals competition. He holds the current Eastern High School record with a time of 9:36.15.
Eastern Coach Tyler Brothers encourages the county to support these athletes and all the hard work they’ve put in to get to this point.
From Meigs, Braylon Harrison will compete in the long jump and high jump. Braylon holds the Meigs High School record for long jump with a distance of 21 feet 5.5 inches.
“Braylon is the first person since 2019, to make it to the state meet from Meigs Local. Along with Braylon being successful, his teammates had a successful season as well. We had multiple podium finishes at regionals, school records broken, and a lot of PRs throughout the year. I am proud of all the athletes this year and now ready to see how Braylon finishes out the rest of his season.” stated Meigs track head coach, Laura Pullins
The OHSAA State Track Meet is slated for two days with the above athletes competing at the following times: Braylon Harrison will participate in the Long Jump on Friday at 9:30am and the High Jump on Saturday at 9:30am. Brayden O’Brien will run in the 1600 meter run on Saturday at 10:05am. Erica Durst will run in the 800 meter run on Saturday at 10:55am and Connor Nolan will run the 3200 meter run at 11:30am.
