Fatal crash on State Route 7

TUPPERS PLAINS, Ohio – A crash on Route 7 earlier today ended with one fatality.

According to the Gallipolis Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol the crash occurred at 1:13 p.m. near Tuppers Plains. Aaron Greenwalt, 31, of Eastview Kentucky, was driving a 2021 Ram north on State Route 7. The vehicle went left of center striking a southbound 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Taylor Shaffer, 19, of Shade, Ohio.

Shaffer was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the OSHP.

Aaron Greenwalt was driving with his wife and child. All three were taken to Holzer Meigs Emergency Department for non-life threatening injuries.

Responding to the scene in addition to the OSHP were Meigs County ODOT, Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Meigs County Coroner, Meigs County EMS, Chester Fire Department, Tuppers Plains Fire Department, Riverside Towing and Five Time Towing.

State Route 7 was closed for several hours due to the crash. It has since reopened to traffic.
