Stanley Earl McFarland of Pomeroy, Ohio, passed away on October 11, 2023. He was 82 at the time of his death. 

He was born February 21, 1941 in Trumbull County, Ohio to George E. McFarland and Elsie (Whinnery). He is  proceeded in death by his parents and his sister Doris Elizabeth (Thomas). Stan is survived by his wife Edna, his brothers Charles (Garland) and Fred, his children: Joy Midkiff (Brian), grandchildren – Joshua (Victoria), and Noelle, and Jon McFarland, his stepson Kirk Delzell by his former wife June McFarland, his stepchildren Aaron Craven, Tracey Bell (Steve), grandchild – Mindy, Shelly Williams (Matthew), grandchildren – Gabrielle, Erin, and Kiersten, and Jason Craven (Christina), grandchildren – Sierra Ott (Coleman), Seneca, Savannah, and Caleb by his former wife Sabra McFarland.

Stan grew up on a dairy farm in Braceville, Ohio.  He sold his herd to pay for college at Ohio State University where he met his first wife Laurel Herman. He graduated with a degree in Mining Engineering. He was a Professional Engineer and a licensed Surveyor. He worked as an engineer for North American Coal Company before working independently as a surveyor, then finishing his career working 20 years as an engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was active in local government in Woodsfield, Ohio.

Stan was a free thinker, an inventor, and a philosopher who loved to engage anyone that would listen about his theories.
