Name released in fatal Syracuse fire

SYRACUSE, Ohio – The name of the person that died in a fire in Syracuse, Ohio has been released.

According to Meigs County Coroner Dr. Daniel Whiteley, Sharon Harris was the person found deceased in the West College Road home. He said the body has been sent for autopsy and the investigation is ongoing.

The state fire marshal is investigating the fire.

The Syracuse Fire Department was alerted about 11:17 p.m. on Dec. 26 to a fire on West College Road. Crews from Syracuse and Racine Fire Departments worked to put the fire out. One person was found in the home deceased, according to Syracuse Fire Chief Bill Roush. The name of the person has not yet been released.

Chief Roush said the fire marshal was called to the scene along with Meigs County Coroner Dr. Daniel Whiteley. Chief Roush did not comment on the possible cause of the fire pending the investigation by the fire marshal. Roush said the roadway would be closed on West College Road for a couple of hours as the scene was processed and investigated by the fire marshal.

Syracuse Fire Department responded with 14 firefighters. Racine Fire Department responded with 13 firefighters. In addition to the two departments, Meigs County EMS and Meigs County Sheriff’s Office responded.
