Semi Truck Wrecks on Great Bend Road
A semi truck went off the road and overturned on Great Bend Road.
The crash happened this afternoon on Great Bend Road which is serving as the detour for a section of US 33 near the William S. Ritchie Jr. Bridge.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the semi truck was traveling Eastbound when he went off the right hand side of the road. The pavement and embankment gave way and the truck rolled on it’s side. The driver will be cited for failure to control, according to OSHP. The name of the driver has not been released at the time of publication.
Traffic has been halted westbound until the scene can be cleared, and the semi truck removed. It is unclear how long responders will be on scene at this time. Traffic has been moving eastbound with one lane open near the crash scene. The semi truck was hauling empty totes.
According to Meigs County EMA Director Jamie Jones, there was no diesel fuel leaking from the semi truck. He said there has been some DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) leaking, but it was not much.
Along with the OSHP and Meigs EMA, the Racine Fire Department responded to the scene. The Ohio Department of Transportation was also assisting with the westbound lane closure. Meigs EMS was on scene, but the driver declined to be transported.
