October 23, 6:30pm – 7:45pm: Trunk or Treat at Kimes – Kimes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 75 Kimes Ln, Athens

October 25, 5:30pm – 7:30pm: Trunk-or-Treat – 1002 E. State Street, Athens

October 25, 6:00pm – 8:00pm: Family Movie Night: The Addams Family (2019) – Athens County Library Main Branch

Halloween is right around the corner, and in celebration we will be doing an after-hours showing of the animated Addams Family (PG). Snacks and drinks will be provided but feel welcome to bring your own. *This event is open to all ages, but the film is rated PG.

October 26, 9:00am – 12:00pm: Halloween Bash at the Athens Farmers Market – Athens Farmers Market on E. State St.

Wear your costume and bring your candy bag! Art demos and kids activities will be offered.

October 26, 1:00p.m – 4:00p.m.: Halloween in Athens Family Activities – Court Street between Union and Washington Streets

Live music from DJ Rockin’ Reggie, face painting, kids bouldering wall, musical petting zoo, scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, and much more!

October 26, 2:00p.m. – 6:00p.m.: Coolville Ghoulfest – Coolville

Ghoulfest will have Trunk-or-Treat, arts and crafts, bouncy house, haunted house, free popcorn, cotton candy, and hotdogs, and much more!

October 26, 2:30pm – 4:30pm: Athens Uptown Business Trick-or-Treat – Businesses located on Court Street, West State Street, Washington Street, and Union Street

Join the librarians at the Coolville library for a trick-or-treat book giveaway.

October 26, 5:00pm: Honey for the Heart Halloween Parade – Court Street

To participate in the parade go to Central Venue between 4:00pm – 4:30pm to pick out a costume or puppet and line up on Fern St. To watch the parade line up on North Court Street. A dance will directly follow at Central Venue staring The Wild Honeybees!

Silly or Spooky? In the spirit of Halloween we’ll be getting creative decorating pumpkins and enjoying the season together!

October 30, 4:00pm – 5:30pm: Costume Party – Athens County Library, Chauncey Branch

Witches and fairies and zombies, oh my! Wear your Halloween costume to the library and enjoy spooky snacks, spooky music, and spooky crafts. We will have some spare vampire teeth for anyone who does not have a costume but wants one.

Join us for a fun-filled evening as we watch Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (Rated G) and create our very own were-rabbit creature. *Snacks and crafting materials provided.

Archaeologist Alexandra Moyer will share the myths and the facts about the use of mirrors found in ancient burial sites around Europe and Asia. Why did people love and value them so much? What do we know about who was using mirrors and why? What did the dead want with them?

Sayre Flannagan is a wildlife biologist and instructor at the University of Rio Grande and Hocking College.  She also worked as a field biologist for many years, studying threatened and endangered species.  She was lucky enough to score a job at the Ohio State University’s bat lab while in college, where she got to work firsthand with Big Brown Bats (Eptesicus fuscus).  This presentation will provide general knowledge and fun facts about how cool bats are, how bats are doing in our current world, as well as some tips for landowners on how to increase bat populations on their property.

October 31, 6:30pm – 7:30pm: Adult Storytime: “Honeysuckle Cottage” by P. G. Wodehouse – Athens County Library, Main Branch

First appearing in January 1925 in The Saturday Evening Post, “Honeysuckle Cottage” is considered by many to be a contender for P. G. Wodehouse’s funniest short story.  But be warned, it takes place in a haunted house, so bank on “scary hilarious”!  A perfect mood-setter for a typical Halloween in Athens. Dramatic reading by public librarian, Todd Bastin.  A short discussion will follow.
