Vacant home catches fire in central Toledo Saturday

Toledo firefighters spent part of Saturday evening tackling a house fire in central Toledo.

The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department reported that an abandoned home on East Bancroft near Franklin Avenue caught fire around 5 p.m.

Smoke and flames poured from the structure, causing extensive damage to the building.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by around 5:20 p.m.

Officials at the scene described the fire as “suspicious” but did not provide additional details.

An arson investigation is now underway.

Records from the Lucas County Auditor’s Office show that Mercy Property Holdings owns the home.
