A 41-year-old man was taken into custody early Saturday morning in connection with the shooting death of a 26-year-old man, according to US Marshals.
Damario McCall is accused of shooting and killing Ar’Mon Covington, 26, at a BP gas station in Akron in early July.
The shooting occurred around 4:18 a.m. on July 5 at the BP service station. Authorities say Covington challenged McCall, who was harassing women in the parking lot. McCall then pulled out a gun, shot Covington several times, and drove away south on Grant Street.
Police said a man was slain at a gas station while defending women from being harassed by the shooter.
Covington was pronounced deceased on the scene.
On July 8, Akron Police issued a warrant for McCall’s arrest; he was wanted for murder, possessing guns while disabled, and carrying concealed weapons, according to the United States Marshals.
According to the US Marshals, McCall was apprehended without incident early Saturday morning in the 500 block of Ardella Avenue. A loaded firearm was retrieved.
“This was a senseless crime that occurred in our community. A repeat, violent fugitive and a firearm are now off the streets due to the hard work of the Akron Police Department, and our task force,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement.
