Two people were killed and two are in the hospital following a shooting near Mt. Washington on Sunday afternoon, according to Cincinnati police.
Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Beacon Street at 1:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.
Two people were killed at the site in the shooting, and two others, including the gunman, are in “critical condition,” according to Cincinnati Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham.
Police say they are still attempting to identify all those involved.
“There is no active threat to the community,” police said.
The shooting’s cause is still being investigated, and police say it’s too early to describe how things played out.
‘Truly a tragedy’: CPD Lt. Cunningham
Lieutenant Jonathan Cunningham of the Cincinnati Police Department described the incident on Beacon Street in Mt. Washington, where three individuals were shot before the alleged shooter killed himself.
“Truly a tragedy today,” he says. “The pain is widespread, being felt by those involved, the officers. The residential community. It’s very sad.”
According to Lt. Cunningham, these shootings have a significant impact on friends, family, neighbors, and first responders who experience it on a daily basis.
“There’s a lot of work to be done here, and a lot of healing needs ot be had,” Cunningham said.
He claims there are numerous moving pieces in this case, which occurred both inside and outside of the Beacon Street property.
Community concerns
Jerry Corbett is running for City Council. He claims he has lived in the neighborhood for decades and has never seen anything like this.
“That’s the concerning part about it is this is becoming more frequent in other neighborhoods and now it’s here,” he said.
