A man has been detained in connection with a hit-and-run collision in Pinewood last week, which deputies say killed a bicyclist.
Deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office named the driver as Michelson Jeancy, 45, in an arrest report issued Tuesday.
According to jail records, he is charged with one count each of leaving the scene of a fatal crash and tampering with physical evidence.
The collision occurred around 11:20 p.m. on August 25 on Northwest 103rd Street near Northwest 12th Avenue.
According to investigators, a man on a bicycle had just left a Mobil gas station and was cycling westbound when he was struck from behind by a 2013 Honda Civic. The hit pushed the rider against the windshield and into the road.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the deceased dead on the scene.
Authorities later recognized him as Gregory Hughes, 63, a neighbor known as “Grey.”
According to detectives, Jeancy departed the scene without asking for help.
On Sunday, investigators said they found the Honda Civic at a Miami residence, with front-end damage consistent with the incident.
They also confirmed that security footage from multiple areas connected the automobile to the event.
Deputies said Jeancy gave investigators a statement after being informed of his Miranda rights, but the details of that statement were deleted from the publicly available report.
Deputies stated that he was detained without incident and brought to the Metrowest Detention Center.
He remained in custody at the MWDC as of Tuesday morning, with his bond noted as “to be set.”
