A 20-year-old Buffalo man has been sentenced to five years in prison and five years of post-release supervision following an incident involving an off-duty Niagara Falls officer earlier this year.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office stated that on January 9, 2025, Dorian D. Jones displayed a weapon before driving away in the officer’s Mercedes with his 13-year-old child inside. The officer shot Jones, who fled the car. He was finally discovered on Delaware Avenue and transported to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries. The child was located safe around the corner.
Jones pleaded guilty in April to two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of second-degree threatening. According to the District Attorney’s Office, the event occurred after he pled guilty to charges in three separate cases involving stolen vehicles.
He was jailed without bail after the District Attorney’s Office sought that it be canceled because he was already awaiting sentencing in other instances.
