HSI Secretary Kristi Noem posted on social media that 35 undocumented immigrants were detained.

Noem’s post details the arrest of two Mexican nationals after the driver lost control while trying to elude Customs and Border Patrol agents. The two were arrested on people smuggling charges.

Noem also describes a “follow-up operation at a stash house tied to the scheme” in the El Paso area, which resulted in 28 further arrests.

25 people remain in ICE custody awaiting removal, 8 were charged with illegal re-entry and handed to the United States Marshall Service, and the two suspected smugglers are now facing federal charges.

“This is law and order in action. Human smugglers take note: do not attempt these reckless schemes. We will find you, we will prosecute you, and you will face the full weight of justice,” Noem said on her post.
