A man has been taken into custody by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) following a disturbance at a gas station on Sunday, September 7.
Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Sand Creek Division responded to a disturbance at a gas station in the 1900 block of East Fountain, across from Evergreen Cemetery. According to the official CSPD report, police were directed to a nearby property in the 1000 block of Stewart Place, which is less than a block away.
According to the CSPD report, police were trying to speak with the suspect, now identified as 53-year-old Spence Massey, when he took a woman into a room with him. Officers report hearing a gunshot right after that.
CSPD officers entered the room and apprehended Massey without injuring the woman or other officers. During their search, they discovered the gun Massey used, as well as other occupants in the house who were not hurt.
Massey has been charged with first-degree assault, felony menacing, possessing a weapon by a previous offender, illegal discharge, and reckless endangerment.
