During a traffic stop at CVS, a man from Orlando was detained for towing an unregistered trailer without a driver’s license.

According to an arrest record from the Wildwood Police Department, an officer noticed Felipe Santos DeSouza, 21, driving a blue Honda Pilot south on U.S. 301 around 3 p.m. Friday. The truck was carrying a single-axle commercial REEL trailer without a tag. The trailer also had no functional lighting.

The officer then pulled over the vehicle in the CVS parking lot at 901 S Main St. DeSouza promptly exited and dashed to the opposite side of the vehicle to swap places with the passenger. The officer continued to ask DeSouza for his license and trailer registration, but he did not have one, according to the report.

Instead, he gave his identity and showed the officer a picture of his Brazilian passport on his phone. When the officer inquired for his license again, he said he didn’t have one. He requested the registration card from both occupants, but neither had it, according to the report.

The officer then searched law enforcement databases for DeSouza and the trailer. The former and latter both did not have a license on file. The report also said that the trailer light plug had been destroyed.

DeSouza was detained on allegations of failure to register a car and using a vehicle without a legal license. He also received a ticket for failing to have operational trailer lights. He was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center and then released after paying a $300 bond.
