A man was arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle and trespassing.

On August 3, the Miller County Sheriff’s Office was summoned to Highway 87 and Boulder Road in response to reports of an abandoned semi-truck.

Further inquiry revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen from Dent County, and the suspect was identified as Randall R. Shepherd, 34, of Eldon, Mo.

Deputies also checked surveillance footage from a gas station where the stolen semi-truck had stopped.

According to a probable cause statement, the stolen truck was seen coming into the station before Shepherd exited the driver’s side wearing the same clothes as when he was arrested.

The video shows him entering the store and then exiting to drive away in the stolen vehicle once more.

On August 4, authorities responded to a trespassing report after Shepherd was discovered sleeping in a stranger’s car on Highway 87.

He was arrested on the scene, and the vehicle was searched when the reporting party stated that there was a glasses case in the vehicle that did not belong to them and had not been there previously.

Court filings show that the case involved a bag containing a crystal-like material that eventually tested positive for methamphetamine.

According to online records, the individual had a long history of taking vehicles without permission, was a Class A commercial driver capable of driving a semi-truck, and was on probation or parole.

Shepherd was charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and is being held in the Miller County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
