A Maryland man will serve 16 years in prison for killing his girlfriend’s husband in D.C. in December 2022.
Keyon Slaughter, 28, of Waldorf, Maryland, pled guilty in June in exchange for the 16-year sentence. He has now been officially sentenced. After his release from prison, he will be on probation for another five years.
Dana Bailey Jr. was assassinated in his own apartment on the 3200 block of E Street Southeast at approximately 10:15 a.m. on December 5, 2022, according to court documents. He was dating Bailey’s wife, who was also charged with slaughter. She pleaded guilty to obstructing justice.
Bailey found out about the romance earlier that year, according to court filings. After entering Bailey and his wife’s home, Slaughter confronted him and shot him once in the chest with a .40 caliber revolver. Before dying from his injuries, Bailey identified Slaughter as the shooter using his nickname, “Papi.”
Slaughter, who was serving supervised probation for an armed robbery conviction in 2019, went to North Carolina. In July 2023, he was arrested. He has been in police detention ever since.
