7 Men Charged In Deadly Crash-and-grab Robbery In Chicago’s Magnificent Mile Shopping District

Seven men have been charged with a deadly burglary on Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile,” the city’s main downtown shopping and tourist district.

Prosecutors say the men drove a pickup vehicle into a Louis Vuitton store on Michigan Avenue shortly before 5 a.m. on Thursday, September 11. According to Patch, the men ransacked the business before fleeing in multiple other vehicles, leaving the truck among the storefront debris.

However, the heist turned tragic when the driver of one of the fleeing vehicles collided with another car, killing the driver. WBBM-TV reports that Mark Arceta, 40, of Skokie, was killed.

The accident resulted in the arrest of five alleged robbers. Police stated that items from the Louis Vuitton store werewere in the Kia Stinger driven by the suspects as they fled the scene of the heist.

Two additional suspects were arrested separately, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The suspects had their initial appearance in court on Sunday. Those arrested are Dejuan Wingard, 30; Darius Bowdry, 30; Kellen McMiller, 35; Alton Jackson, 37;37; Harvey Fisher, 26;26; Anthony Hemphill, 22; and Keith Perkins, 19.

Each has been charged with murder, burglary, and theft of property valued between $500,000 and $1 million. In addition, Wingard and McMillin were charged with one count of reckless homicide.
