A Tallahassee man was apprehended after a warrant was issued last year.

Solmaine Rashaad McLean was detained on Thursday after allegedly depositing a check for more than half a million dollars written by the state of Florida.

McLean is accused of conspiring to swindle more than $50,000, uttering a fake instrument, and laundering more than $100,000.

According to the arrest papers, a confidential informant was asked to deposit a check into their bank account in exchange for money. They told authorities that they knew the person who asked them to use their Instagram account as Martin Monroe.

According to records, Monroe posted an Instagram snapshot of a $569,710.54 check from the State of Florida. The confidential source forwarded a screenshot of the post to authorities.

Video surveillance captured McLean depositing the check at the bank.

Investigators determined that McLean is a rapper who is close with Monroe. Records reveal that the couple regularly collaborated on music and shared their recordings on Monroe’s social media platforms.

The exact car McLean was driving when he deposited the money was visible in a music video on YouTube.
