On September 18, 2025, at around 10:44 p.m., the Lake Charles Police Department was dispatched to the 2400 block of Anita Drive for a gunshot.

When cops arrived, they discovered a female victim with a single gunshot wound inside the home. The initial officer noticed that the female victim had both an entry and exit wound, so he sealed them to avoid further blood loss. The person was sent to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Before the woman was taken to the hospital, she identified the culprit as Shermane A. Bartie, a 45-year-old family member from Lake Charles.

During the investigation, officers from the Lake Charles Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Bartie on the charge of attempted second-degree murder, which was signed by Judge Tony Fazzio, who set a $300,000 bond.

Bartie was apprehended without incident on September 19, 2025, at 1:06 p.m. in Lake Charles’ 100 block of North Kirkman Street. Bartie was detained and taken to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center for housing.

The case is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Lake Charles Police at 337-491-1311 or anonymously leave a tip on the Lake Charles PD app.
