A high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle on Thursday night resulted in a successful police maneuver and the arrest of an Orlando man on multiple criminal counts, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 25th, when a deputy noticed a stolen 2021 Kia Forte driving west on I-4 near Champion Gate. The police had reported the vehicle stolen from Orlando the previous day, September 24th.
The PCSO Aviation unit, operating in a helicopter, alerted additional law enforcement units and joined the pursuit. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the stolen Kia once it reached the Polk Parkway, but the driver allegedly sped dramatically, reaching speeds of around 120 mph to get away.
The PCSO chopper took over tracking the car from above, directing patrol forces waiting ahead. As the Kia approached the intersection of Polk Parkway and Winter Lake Road, deputies effectively deployed stop sticks. While the stop sticks ruined the Kia’s passenger-side tires, the driver attempted to flee.
A deputy abruptly ended the chase by successfully performing a PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) on the car, rendering it incapacitated. Authorities promptly hauled the driver into jail.
Tyrese Marshall, 26, of Orlando, has been named as the suspect. He was brought to the Sheriff’s Processing Center and charged with Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, Fleeing to Elude, and Driving While License Suspended or Revoked.
