Three teenage girls were apprehended and charged after detectives spotted them in a stolen car, resulting in a car chase through town, followed by a foot chase through people’s backyards before they were apprehended shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

According to CSPD, detectives from the motor vehicle theft section were alerted to a stolen Honda Pilot near East Platte Avenue and North Murray Boulevard as part of the Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement (BATTLE) operation. The Honda Pilot was reported stolen on Friday, September 19. The Colorado State Patrol air unit supported the CSPD in tracking the vehicle.

As detectives approached the stolen vehicle, they discovered that it was being driven by a teenage girl, with three other adolescent girls riding in the automobile. According to CSPD, police attempted to pull over the car, but it sped away in a dangerous manner. The Honda eventually came to a stop on the 2400 block of Elite Terrace, between North Union Boulevard and Briargate Boulevard.

According to CSPD, the adolescents leaped out of the automobile and fled from the police, unlawfully hopping into the backyards of nearby homes. Police swiftly apprehended the females in the 2600 block of Lear Drive, just a block away.

According to CSPD, a considerable amount of cash was recovered on the young driver, who was detained for vehicular eluding and motor vehicle theft. The remaining three teenagers were also charged with motor vehicle theft. They were each served with a summons and released to their parents.
