A woman was detained after reportedly beating a dog with a bat in Dallas, according to police.

Officers responded to an animal cruelty call in the 13300 block of Cloverbrook Lane in southeast Dallas shortly before noon on October 12, and discovered a suspect striking a dog with a bat, according to Dallas police.

Turkessa Blackmon, 49, was detained on a third-degree felony charge of cruelty to non-livestock animals in connection with the incident, according to police.

Blackmon was booked into the Dallas County Jail on October 16, and she is being held on a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.

No other information was immediately provided.
