RENO, Nev. — An early-season Pacific storm is shaking the high desert awake this Saturday, bringing stout southwest winds, scattered showers, and the first credible chance of Sierra snowfall.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Wind Advisory through Sunday evening. Southwest gusts may reach around 40 mph in the valleys and up to 50 mph across exposed ridges. Expect challenging travel on I-580, U.S. 395, and Highway 50; high-profile or lightweight vehicles should exercise extra caution, particularly in Washoe Valley where crosswinds are expected to peak this afternoon.

Rain chances ramp up today, with scattered showers most likely from midday into late afternoon. Snow levels will hold near 7,500 feet and tick up slightly by evening. Light accumulations are possible on high passes such as Mount Rose Summit and Donner. Temperatures remain mild, topping out around 61°F before slipping into the low 40s tonight.

Sunday keeps the breezy, showery theme alive before skies clear quickly Monday. Highs rebound to the low 60s under abundant sunshine, setting the stage for a calm, mild stretch through midweek.

Looking ahead, forecast models suggest a colder air mass arriving by next weekend, potentially delivering the season’s first valley frost as November begins. Early signs point to a chillier start to November for the high desert.

Five-day outlook for Reno, NV:
– Saturday: 61/41 — Windy with a chance of rain.
– Sunday: 56/36 — Breezy with scattered showers.
– Monday: 63/38 — Sunny, light winds.
– Tuesday: 67/42 — Sunny and dry.
